One way Sarah shows that she cares about the students is she holds a lunchtime support group. Sarah describes it as a “small fan club of queer girls” and it sounds like a great way to have girls come together who have questions about them selves. She also teaches through her curriculum about the changing European viewpoints on people who look different, in the text it says, “deeply rooted part of her teaching and the way she educates”. I think that she is going above and beyond to help these kids out and that shows that she cares. She is holding support groups and helping educate these kids and helping them find their own identity. Also one part of the readings says “as well as being there for students who need her guidance, friendship or support”. I know that once school is done some teachers just pack up and go home, Sarah seems like she is taking that extra step to reach out to these kids and give them support and friendship, she goes that extra mile.

Michelle cares about the kids in another way than Sarah, she see’s their physical needs. She was thinking that kids in her class thought it was boring because they were falling asleep but didn’t realize that it could be their home life being so stressful that causes their academic life suffer. At one point she had to question the sleepy kids and it could be because one of them worked till 2 in the morning, than they have school at the crack of dawn. She spoke about getting snacks for the kids and finding ways to ask them without calling them out. She would write on a post-it note “do you need a snack?” and the student would reply that they needed one because they can’t stay awake. Michelle goes out of her way to buy snacks for the kids so she can help them achieve maximum potential in her class. I mean, I don’t know for a fact but I doubt that the school is reimbursing her. She wants to see her students succeed and if it means going out and buying snacks for them it looks like she will take that initiative. Also, the fact that she was thinking about “what if the kid had to work till 2 in the morning” shows she cares and is interested in what is causing the sleepiness. She could of just sent them to the office or ignored it but it shows she cares.
