What I know about youth development is that it is kind of like making sure you are there for these kids no matter what they are going through. The reason why I am in youth development is because I like being a positive role model for kids. The end of the day you do not know what their whole life could be like. When I am the assistant director for the summer care I treat all these kids as if they are my own. Half of them do not even have a male role model in their lives and I take the opportunity to be theirs. I learned that there were a lot of afterschool programs that are being generated. I used to work at a YMCA and loved it because I enjoyed helping these kids with their homework‘s in finding new strategies to help understand and retain the information. In California one after school learning program was awarded $87.8 million in funding nearly 1000 after school programs across the state. I thought that that was amazing and important because some of these kids need that resource to help them if they are slipping behind and it is a good way to help. I want to learn how to be able to start up a program and go from school to school presenting that program and trying to draw kids into it.
